ABOUT CCT

In 1978, a small group of dedicated theatre lovers came together with a common goal – to bring a theatre company to San Leandro.  The old San Leandro courtroom seemed the perfect location, so after winning over the support of the City and acquiring a lease, the California Conservatory Theatre was founded.

The incorporating directors were: Alan E. Ramos (Executive Director until 1984), Janet Lewis and Elizabeth Hughes.

Early on, CCT presented both comedies and light and heavy dramas such as Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Bell, Book and Candle, Look Back in Anger, and Death of a Salesman.  The first musical was added to its’ 4-5 show season in 1986.  Since its’ inception, over one hundred different plays and musicals have been produced.

Throughout the years, we have been blessed with the kindness and loyalty of many patrons.  There are current season subscribers who have been part of this organization since its inception.  Local merchants and caring individuals have generously loaned or donated props, furniture, costumes, time and money.  A special “thanks” goes to the City of San Leandro, which has been steadfast in recognizing the importance of quality, affordable theatre, and has granted us the privilege of continuing to make 999 East 14th Street our home.

Please join us as we continue to bring you the funniest comedies, the brightest musicals, the thought-provoking dramas, and the spine-tingling thrillers that you’ve come to expect from “The biggest little theatre in the Bay Area.”
